Kigali City Rwanda, City of Lights in Africa-Rwanda City Safari Tours

Kigali City was founded by a German known as Dr. Richard Kandt under the German colonial rule and was made the capital city after independence in 1962.

The customary city was one the seat of the mwami (Kings Yuhi V, Mutara III and Kigeli IV) in Nyanza where as the colonial seat of power was in Butare referred to as Astrida today which was originally preferred to be the capital though Kigali was chosen instead due to its centralized position.

The city is the largest capital city of Rwanda and is also called “ciɡɑlí” in the local language i.e Kinyarwanda. The city has a population of more than a million people in 2012 and is strategically located in the middle of the country next to the geographic center.

The city is economic, cultural with good transport facilities since 1962 when the country gained its independence. The president’s main residence and offices as well as the government ministries are also found in the city.

The largest part of the urban area occupies 70% of the countries’ borders with the hilly countryside spreading over four different valleys and folds on which the city center lies on one and the main government area on the other.

The fold tops are of  1,600 metres/ 5,250 ft with vast structures and office buildings at the tops where as the inclines/ valleys are at 1,300 metres or 4,270 ft with poorer people.

There are various raised land forms that surround the city like Mt. Kigali with an elevation of 1,850 metres/ 6,070 ft. There are several attractions in the country right from the airport to the city center as well as other districts and provinces.

The good infrastructural development like roads, tidiness of the environment, green vegetation around the roads make everyone happy and relaxed hence making the city one of the largest, comfortable and best destination to be in Africa.
