Lake Mburo National Park, Wildlife Adventure Tours in Uganda 

Lake Mburo National Park is situated in western Uganda near Mbarara District since it only takes one 15 minutes to travel from here to Mbarara.  With very beautiful biodiversity, the park covers an area of 260 sq. km  hence smaller than other Savannah National Parks in Uganda.

It consists of an extraordinary mosaic habitat, dry hillside, rocky outcrops, bushes, thickets, open Savannah woodland forests, lakes and swamps which are habitats to vast populations of flora and fauna.

There are wetlands that inhabit different wildlife species like Buffaloes, Zebras, Impala, kobs, rare bird species with bill storks as well as carving relief with rotating grassy hills, placid lake shore and seasonal/ permanent  swamps that consist of acacia wood valleys that act as habitats of wildlife animals.

Game Drives

Taking on a game drive is really an excellent choice due to the fact that you will encounter and experience wonderful mysteries of nature as well as spot a variety of wildlife species.

The wildlife animals you will spot include the grand impala, Burchell’s  zebra, kobs, eland, buffalo, warthog, topi, duiker, bush buck, water buck etc. The dry season is the best time to visit for a game drive due to the fact that it is during this time when massive wildlife animals relocate from their habitats i.e bushes to the Lake for water.

Along the eastern part of the park you will find game tracks that consist of different landscapes including acacia woodlands, wetlands, grassy slopes, rock projections and seasonally flooded valley floors and these are carried out in the mornings and late afternoons.

Horse back Safaris

Embark on a horse back safaris to spot various wildlife animals like the eland, buffalo, warthog, topi, impala, duiker, bush buck, water buck and zebra wandering and grazing on the green vegetation.

Four hacks are available at the park so as to enable visitors  go up at the hill where you will spot the beautiful terrain and vegetation when taking breakfast in the bush.

The activity is exceptional due to the fact that while riding your horse, zebras will come around curiously to see another similar being with out stripes.

Birding

The park is a very convenient destination for all tthose interested in birding due to the different bird species it inhabits in the swampy valleys of Warukiri and Miriti which are situated next to the salt licks and the forest  i.e 313 different species like Crested Francolin, Emerald-spotted Wood Dove, Brown Parrot, Barefaced Go-away bird, Rednecked Spur, common Quails, Black-billed Barbet, Greenwood Hoopoe, Blue-napped Mousebird.

Lilac-breasted Roller, African-grey Hornbill, Nubian Woodpecker, Rufous-bellied Heron, Bateleur, Coqui Francolin, Grey Crowned Crane, Black-bellied Bustard and Brown-chested Lapwing. Alternatively, travel to the Rwonyo camp so as to spot the Red necked spurfowl, Temminck’s Courser, African-wattled Plover, Rufous napped Flappet larks, Rufuos chested Swallow, Common Scimitarbill, White-headed Barbet, Red-faced Barbet,  Red-shouldered Cuckoo-shrike, Long-tailed Cisticola, Yellow-breasted Apalis, White-winged Tit and Finfoot etc.

Hiking and Nature Walks

Take on a guided nature walk around the park in company of a skilled armed ranger  so as to encounter nature’s mysteries within the Rubanga Forest for instance, the brilliant colored birds, shores of the Lake, salt lick at Rwonyo with different wildlife animals especially those that are attracted to the salty rocks and a hilltop  offers tremendous views at the Lake as well as nine of the fourteen Lakes.

If you take on trails along the western shore of the Lake you will spot animals like hyenas, hippos and this begins at 7:00 am a period when the animals are moving back to their habitats.

Launch Trips

Launch trips/ boat cruises are carried out along the eastern shores of the Lake and take 2 hours in the mornings and late afternoons.

While cruising on water, you will spot wildlife species like crocodiles, hippos, buffalo and vivid kingfishers like the prehistoric-looking Shoebill, hammer kops, splendid fish Eagles flying in the air to their habitats i.e nests. Having wonderful vies at the terrain, vegetation and the Lake is a must as well as wildlife.

Sports Fishing

Are you interested in encountering an activity that will require you to use your hands, take on sports fishing at Lake Mburo so as to get remarkable experiences as well as reality.

You should prepare and carry appropriate fishing gear and a valid permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority so as to carry out fishing comfortably.

This activity is carried out at Mazinga site Lake Mburo and there are six different species of fish that can be caught like the mud fish, lung fish, haplocromes with tilapia being the most prominent fish caught. Use hooks for they are more appropriate to use while fishing.
