After breakfast you will go for chimpanzee tracking. You may spot other Primates such as the Lhotse’s monkey and the grey-cheeked Mangabey are often sighted. The birds are spectacular, though as in most tropical forests, on the way you may also spot birds. Enjoy the chimpanzees in their natural environment.
Before retiring back for relaxation. After go for a canopy walk The canopy walk is a guided tour starting from the Uwinka Visitors center in Nyungwe forest, followed with a 30 minutes’ walk via the igishigishi trail in a steep slope deep into the forest to the starting point of the walk way. Many primates, birds, butterflies can be spotted from the Top of the Canopy walkway with also great views of the entire forest canopy including Lake Kivu on a clear day. Dinner and Overnight as above.
Day 4 of the 7 Days Rwanda Chimpanzees Gorillas & Cultural Safari: Drive to Ruhengeri
After breakfast drive north to Kinigi.to Ruhengeri the home of gorillas. Dinner and overnight Mountain Gorillas Nest
Day 5: Dian Fossey – Ibyiwachu cultural village
Dian fossey was an American as an American zoologist, primatologist, and anthropologist who undertook an extensive study of mountain gorilla groups over a period of 18 years. She studied them daily in the mountain forests of Rwanda, initially encouraged to work there by anthropologist Louis Leakey. Her 1983 book, Gorillas in the Mist, combines her scientific study of the gorillas at Karisoke Research Center with her own personal story. It was adapted into a 1988 film of the same name. Unfortunately Fossey was murdered in 1985; inside her research Centre and was buried near her favorite gorilla digit. You will visit her grave and experience the practical part of her work. After relaxing, go and visit the Ibyiwachu cultural village, they perform cultural activities like singing, dance etc. retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Gorilla Trekking- Twin lakes of Rubondo and Bulera
After breakfast you will transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters to track Gorillas in Parc National des Volcans. Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills can be tough, arduous and tiring, sometimes taking up to 8 hours in the forest.
After finding the gorillas, enjoy them for 1 hour taking snaps and videos return back. After relaxing, go and visit the Twin lakes of Rubondo and Bulera. Enjoy the scenery and the different bird species. Retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Golden monkey Tracking – Departure.
In the morning, after breakfast, you will re-enter the same forest in such for another endangered species, the golden monkeys. This also another experience as you enjoy them jumping around the tree tops, they are habituated and the trek is not so tire some like that of gorillas. . After, Lunch, the guide will drive you back to Kigali for your flight back home.
